Accepted Payment Methods

Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) as well as checks are acceptable payment methods offered at GVSU Surplus Store. We are no longer accepting cash.

Note: We are now accepting GVSU purchasing cards and FOAP transfers as payment. Please contact us if you have any questions about these payment methods. Instructions for ordering items using your department's FOAP are available. 

Sales and Tax Exemption

State of Michigan 6% sales tax is added to the total to all purchases unless a valid tax exempt certificate is provided at the time of sale.

In order to claim tax exemption in-store:

  1. The purchaser must complete all four sections of the Michigan Sales and Use Tax Certificate of Exemption to establish a valid exemption claim. That certificate can be found at http://www.michigan.gov/documents/taxes/3372_216612_7.pdf
  2. A purchaser who claims exemption must provide the GVSU Surplus Store with an exemption certificate 
  3. Once these steps have been completed we will be able to process your order without MI sales tax otherwise your order will be charged MI sales tax.

Note: payment must be made from the organization with the tax exemption status.

In order to claim Michigan sales tax exemption for online purchases you must provide GVSU Surplus Store with the following information:

  1. Username for our website.
  2. The purchaser must complete all four sections of the Michigan Sales and Use Tax Certificate of Exemption to establish a valid exemption claim. That certificate can be found at http://www.michigan.gov/documents/taxes/3372_216612_7.pdf
  3. A purchaser who claims exemption must provide the GVSU Surplus Store with an exemption certificate AND their sales tax license number (or use tax registration number)
  4. Once these steps have been completed please email all this documentation and information to the GVSU Surplus Store at [email protected] and we will be able to process your order without MI sales tax otherwise your order will be charged MI sales tax.
